Arboreal Habitat
Nest box installation and monitoring
DM Ecological has designed and implemented arboreal habitat projects in Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland for various hollow dependant fauna species including gliders and possums, microbats, and small and large parrot species.
The combination of ecological expertise and practical experience, knowledge, and qualifications (Working at Heights, Canopy Access) makes DM Ecological the ideal partner to design and deliver your habitat enrichment project.

Capabilities
- Design arboreal habitat enrichment and/or monitoring program based on target species, landscape scale, and available funding.
- Design and procure nest boxes in line with target species habitat, home range, and breeding requirements.
- Coordinate the involvement of community groups in the delivery of your project (e.g. Men’s Shed for nest box production, school, Landcare or friends’ groups for monitoring) delivering community based outcomes.
- Procure and install traditional plywood nest boxes, reclaimed hollow logs, Habitech polypropylene modular nest boxes or HollowHog augmented hollows.
- Install nest boxes at height or in difficult to access locations. Tree climbing, elevated work platforms and ladders are all options depending on specific locations, desired outcomes and budgets.
- Passive and direct monitoring of nest box occupancy.
- Produce nest box installation and monitoring reports to ensure long-term outcomes via ongoing monitoring and maintenance, result tracking, and grant acquittals
